The Story

Simple was founded back in 2009, born from the frustrating experiences of future founder Josh Reich and his friend (and future co-founder) Shamir Karkal: hidden fees, unnecessary products, long waits, and complicated conversations. They wondered:

  • Why can banking is so complicated?
  • Is it possible for a bank to help people, not baffle them?
  • How about if banks didn’t charge so many fees?
  • What banks educated customers to feel confident with their finances?

And in the process of answering all these questions, Simple was born. Even after moving to its new base in Portland, Oregon, they are still asking similar questions to keep answering them.

Simple offers banking products conveniently managed through a mobile app available for Android and iPhone devices. With smart spending built-in tools, the app also helps you set savings goals, keep track of your budget and expenses to help you achieve your financial dreams.

Services and products include FDIC-insured online checking accounts (personal or shared), high-yield accounts, certificates of deposit accounts (CD), and personal loans. All their accounts are free with no hidden fees.

Simple takes your money’s safety very seriously, offering mobile banking security features such as two-factor authentication, fingerprint unlock, chip technology in your card, or photo check deposit to help you go branchless. Other perks of banking with them are easy money transfers (including instant ones between Simple customers) and friendly, helpful, kind, and personable customer service to help you have questions.
