Best Home Buying Seasons
If you are a buyer looking for a great deal, Christmas and Easter are the best two days to go knock on that door and make that offer. Even if it’s a low-ball offer, it stands a much greater chance of success, largely because people are in a great mood! But if that’s just not your style, there are some general seasons that typically give home shoppers the advantage.
One of those seasons is the one we’re currently in - winter! The harsh, cold, short days of winter do not motivate people to get out and shop for houses! Can you believe that? But the Internet has made it all so much easier to shop from the comfort and warmth of your own home, then select a target few to see in person. Home shopping during the winter can net a good deal because sellers are weary. This, according to essortment.com:
“Another very slow time, when many people take their house off the market, is during the winter season…[The lack of shoppers] probably has to do with gift buying and such for the holiday season, and not having the financial resources available to buy a house.”
Any houses that were taken off the market during the winter - you can look for them to re-emerge in the spring. This is the undisputed king of real estate seasons. However, with the current state of the real estate market, houses are still unlikely to move very fast. Houses will very likely sit on the market for a few months, leading us into summer, the other season on our list. The summer is great for home shoppers because, once again, sellers are weary. Many are supporting two house payments, having already moved in expectation of their house selling faster than it has. They are ready to get rid of the house payment and get on with their life. So keep these tips in mind and score a better real estate deal in 2008.
