Who’s Looking at Your Credit Score?

When it comes to debt management, buying a house or any number of things, your credit score is important. Even though the home mortgage is probably the biggest and most important item associated with your credit score, more people than just your mortgage loan processor are looking at your credit score. So, who wants to know your credit history?

Home mortgage companies

As mentioned before, mortgage lenders want to know your credit. It is even important when you are looking for a second mortgage or refinance mortgage. Not only does your credit score determine whether you are even eligible for home mortgages, but it also determines whether you will get a low mortgage rate.

Consumer loans

Consumer lenders for such things as auto loans, department store credit and other big-ticket items want to know your credit score. Credit cards also fall into the category of consumer loans. Your credit score will help lenders determine how much you can borrow, and the interest rate you will get.

Your landlord

If you aren’t looking for a home mortgage, but you are looking for a place to rent, you may find that your credit score is important. Many landlords are now running credit checks to determine if you are a risk with regard to skipping payments or paying late. A low score can mean you could be rejected for housing, or that you will have to pay a higher security deposit.

Employers

Employers are beginning to get in on the credit score check. When you apply for a job, you potential employer may decide to pull up your credit history. A poor credit score may indicate that you represent a risk for embezzlement, or, in security situations, for taking bribes. A low credit score indicates to some employers that you might try to get money to pay down your debts.

There are many people interested in looking at your credit score. It is vital that you understand how important it is, and check your credit report regularly, whether you are applying for a home mortgage or a job.
