Common Tax Mistakes: Are you Guilty?

image-14-42409.jpgIt is a shame that thousands of taxpayers fall for the same mistakes year after year. Not only can you learn a lot from others, but you can learn a lot from looking within as well. It would be in your best interest to know about the most common tax mistakes, and then use your knowledge to avoid them.

Here are several common tax mistakes that you may be guilty of:

1. Math mistakes. Were you always bad at math? No matter how good or bad you were at math in high school and/or college, you need to bring your A-game when you are filing your tax return. Math mistakes are common, but by using a calculator and double checking your work you can easily avoid them.

2. Sending your return to the wrong address. Want to know why the IRS has yet to receive your return? It may be because you sent it to the wrong address. This is way more common than it should be. If the IRS sent you a peel-off label you should use it to send back your return. If you do not have one make sure you find the right address, and then write as clear as humanly possible.

3. Direct deposit errors. If you are due a refund from the IRS you should be excited. That is until you find that the money isn’t coming because you supplied the wrong direct deposit information. If either your routing number or account number are wrong, you will not receive your refund and will make a lot of extra work for yourself.

If you have been guilty of the common tax mistakes detailed above, you should do all you can to avoid them in the future.
