Don’t Play it Safe, Take Qualified Deductions
As you probably know, there are many tax deductions that you can take advantage of. Unfortunately, there are some people who “play it safe” when it comes to these deductions. The reason for this is simple: they think that taking deductions will send up a red flag, and in turn have the IRS at their doorstep in no time at all. This is a myth, and one that you should not listen to.
Keep this in mind: if you take qualified deductions there is nothing to be worried about. In other words, there is no point in being scared if you can back up all of your deductions. If the IRS does audit you, as long as you can prove that your tax deductions were legitimate you will not run into any problems.
Of course, if you are attempting to take deductions that are borderline you may be asking for trouble. This is when you should play it safe. Ask yourself one important question: is this one tax deduction really going to help that much? You never want to do anything that is meant to deceive the IRS. If a deduction is legitimate you have every right to take advantage. If not, you should stay away altogether.
If you are unsure of which deductions you can take and which ones are iffy, you should hire a tax professional to assist you. They can answer all your questions on deductions, no matter what they may be.
All in all, don’t feel as if you have to play it safe when it comes to deductions. Instead, take advantage of those that you qualify for and leave out those that will get you in trouble with the IRS.
