Check the Work of your Tax Professional

image-12-82208.jpgDo you hire a tax professional to help you file your final return? Does your pro help you with any other tax related issues throughout the year? If you answered yes to either one of these questions, you need to keep one thing in mind: your tax professional can make mistakes too. Just because they are qualified and experienced does not mean that they are perfect. If you have a complex situation and are constantly throwing new information around, there is a chance that your tax pro may make a mistake. And of course, this is something that you need to avoid.

The best way to avoid errors is to check your tax professional’s work. No, this is not always fun, but it is something that you should do nonetheless. Don’t worry about offending anybody. Remember, you are paying for the service and it is your money that is on the line. There is nothing wrong with telling your tax professional that you want to check over their work, just to make sure that everything is accurate, before forwarding the information to the IRS or other party.

If you come across an error or something that you do not fully understand, make sure that you discuss this at once. Again, you cannot be shy. When you are paying for a professional service you should expect everything to be right. And guess what? Your tax professional expects to be 100 percent accurate as well. He will be more than happy to go over any questions that you have; but you have to ask first.

All in all, you should check the work of your tax professional. This will ensure that you know what they are doing, and that everything is being completed to your satisfaction.

The Face of a Qualified CPA

image-11-82108.jpgIf you are hiring a CPA, or certified public accountant, you need to take this process seriously. The question is: what does a qualified CPA look like? It is important to know what you are looking for before you begin to search. This way, when you come across the right professional you will know it. Remember, not every CPA is going to suit your needs. This is why you need to know what you are looking for, as well as what the most valued accountants bring to the party.

First off, why are you hiring a CPA? Are you an individual who needs help filing an income tax return? Or maybe you are starting a small business, and need a CPA to help you get everything setup. No matter what, you need to know why you are hiring a CPA. This will help to guide you from the beginning.

Now that you know the answer to that question, you must consider what you want your CPA to offer. There is no denying that you need to hire somebody with experience. This is a must, and you cannot forget this. The best way to learn about an accountant’s experience is to simply ask. It is better to ask than to find out later on that you are working with a CPA that does not really know what he is doing.

Of course, a qualified CPA will be aware of all the rules and laws that must be followed. This alone may be the most important detail to consider. After all, if you are going to take the advice of your CPA you need to be 100 percent sure that it is accurate.

Do you have a better idea of what a qualified CPA looks like? Hopefully your answer is yes. If so, it is time to get out there and hire the right person for the job!
