How to Address an Error on your Credit Card Statement

image-3-3509.jpgBelieve it or not, credit card companies make mistakes just like everybody else. They are not immune to errors, and you need to keep this in mind at all times. If you do not go over every credit card statement with a fine toothed comb you are making a big mistake. Remember, one error, no matter how big or small or whose fault it is, can cause you a lot of trouble and headaches in the future.

How should I address an error on my credit card statement? Well, this all depends on the mistake that you are dealing with. For instance, if it is an error that your credit card company made you will want to get in touch with them to ask for clarification. This could be anything from calculating your minimum payment wrong to using a different APR. There may be a very good reason as to what you are seeing.

On the other side of things, if there is a charge that does not make sense you need to first contact your credit card company and then you may have to get in touch with the entity that you purchased from. Again, this could be a basic misunderstanding and one that gets fixed soon enough. But you do not want to simply let this go. A mistake is a mistake, and you want to get it fixed before it causes additional problems.

There is a very good chance that you will never spot an error on your credit card statement. After all, your company takes great pride in avoiding mistakes and offering everything that they promised. But if you do find a mistake be sure to call your credit card company as soon as possible to rectify the situation.

Turn off Paper Credit Card Statements, Save the Planet

image-3-1709.jpgDo you have at least one credit card? If so, you know that your credit card company sends you a statement once per month. While this may not sound like a big deal, imagine how many other people receive a similar statement in the mail. This is a lot of paper that is used. In turn, a lot of trees must be cut down and a lot of room must be made when this paper is put in the trash. If you want to cut yourself out of the equation you can do so by turning off paper credit card statements.

The first thing you should do is ask your credit card company if they offer this option. While most companies do, some are still running a bit behind. Remember, it is easier for credit card companies to do without paper statements as well. Most financial institutions love when a customer opts out.

Even though you are no longer receiving paper statements you still need the ability to receive the proper information; this is where the internet comes into play. If you are no longer receiving statements in the mail you will be able to view them online. For many people this is easier because they can view their bill online, ask questions via the internet, and pay electronically as well. And to go along with all of this they are helping to save the planet.

If you are currently receiving paper credit card statements you may want to “turn off” this option. Even though you are only one person you can do your part by opting to receive statements online.

When does your Credit Card Statement Arrive?

image-2-1609.jpgDo you know when your credit card statement arrives in the mail? Do you only receive a statement online? It is important to know the answers to these questions as well as any others that are related. Believe it or not many people don’t know when to expect their statement. In turn, they don’t know when their bill is due. Does this sound like a problem to you? It should!

It is important to know when your credit card statement arrives for many reasons. One, this makes it easy for you to plan your payment. If you don’t know when your statement will arrive you don’t know when you will have to send a check. And if you have a lot of credit card debt there is a good chance that you will be sending quite a bit of money. To go along with this you want to make sure that you always receive your statement on time. What would happen if something went wrong and you did not receive your bill? If this happens you need to get to the bottom of the problem so you don’t send your payment late.

If you don’t know when your credit card bill is mailed each month you should look on your statement to see when the billing cycle ends. This will give you a better idea of when to expect it. Even though your statement may not arrive on the same day every month it is usually pretty close.
