College Credit Card Offers are Swarming Students

image-14-82809.jpgAre you a college student? If so, you are either back in school or getting ready to hit the books sometime in the very near future. At the same time, you are probably thinking about other things such as work, your social life, and money. Along the lines of money comes college credit card offers. Even though school just started, you may already be thinking about opening up a credit card so you have enough money for the year. Is this is a good idea?

There are so many college credit card offers out there that students often times feel they have to apply for one. This is what credit card companies are banking on. They want college students like you to use their credit card. This means a lot of money for them; especially if you decide to carry a balance and get hit with a large finance charge.

It is very important that you act with caution if you are thinking about applying for a college credit card. There are benefits of this type of card, but there are quite a few potential drawbacks as well. For example, you will now have money to pay for essentials such as books and groceries. But at the same time you have access to a lot of money that can be used irresponsibly on items that are “wants” instead of “needs.”

College credit card offers are already swarming students and it is only August. It is safe to say that things are going to heat up as the semester drags on. As a college student you are smart enough to know the pros and cons of a credit card. Are you going to accept an offer? Or will you continue to get by without plastic?

College is Starting, College Credit Cards are in Season

image-13-72309.jpgWith August closing in, students are heading back to college for another year. This also means that college credit card season is once again in play. Students will be thinking about applying for their own card, or begging their parents to let this happen. There is nothing wrong with a college credit card, but this must be thought about before moving forward. Applying for and using a college credit card with reckless abandon will more than likely end in some form of disaster.

What is it that makes college credit cards so appealing? Students love these because it means they have money at their fingertips. You know how college kids are. They like to spend money on everything from food to clothes to concert tickets and much more (even books). With the right college credit card they don’t have any issue getting what they want. Of course, the problem comes into play when the statement arrives in the mail.

Are all college credit cards bad? None of them are bad. What is bad are the students who use them in an irresponsible manner. As a parent you need to be 100 percent sure that your child is responsible enough to carry a credit card. And even then, you don’t really have full control. At anytime your child can apply for their own plastic; there is not much you can do.

It is college credit card season, and students are ready to spend a lot of money as soon as they arrive on campus. No matter if you are a student or parent of one be careful of how you view college credit cards. This is not something to take lightly.

Can College Students Benefit from Credit Cards?

image-2-7209.jpgDid you know that the average college student has more than $3k in credit card debt? This is hard to believe. You would think by now that most college students realize that carrying a credit card is a big responsibility. There are benefits of using a credit card as a college student, but only if you are prepared to be 100 percent responsible. Otherwise, if you are in college and need money you should think about your other options.

Your credit history is very important. This is why starting as soon as possible is not a bad idea. But again, college students are different. If you are going to apply for a credit card while you are in college you need to answer a couple of questions before moving forward.

1. What am I going to use the credit card for? If you don’t have an answer to this question there is really no reason to apply for a credit card. Make sure you are not getting a credit card just so you can buy things you don’t need.

2. How will I pay the bill when it comes? Remember, using a credit card is not like cash. You have to pay the bill when it arrives once per month. Do you have a job that brings in money for paying this sort of bill? Will your parents pay it for you? Make sure you know where you are going to get the money to pay your credit card balance.

As a college student you can benefit from a credit card in many ways. As you build your credit history and show that you are responsible, your credit score will continue to increase. When you finally graduate from college and make your way into the real world, a high credit score will go a long way in helping you reach many personal and financial goals.
