Is a Credit Card Right for your Small Business?

image-1-5109.jpgDo you own a small business? Are you in the process of starting one? If you answered yes to either question you know that money is something you need a lot of. The question is: where are you going to get the funds needed to run a successful small business? Some owners only use the cash that they earn to invest in their company. Others, a large majority, begin to rely on a business credit card (or two) sooner rather than later. Is this is a good idea for you and your business?

There are pros and cons of having a credit card for your small business. On the plus side this gives you access to a line of credit that can help you buy what you need to grow your business. If you don’t have cash on hand you may find it hard to grow. But with a credit card this is not the case because you should be able to get the money needed to move forward.

On the downside, you can get into a lot of trouble if you use your credit card and cannot pay it off soon enough. Sure, you can pay the minimums every month, but this means that you will get hit with lots of interest charges. Believe it or not, some small business owners have to use their own cash, not profit from the business, to pay down their credit card debt. This is never an ideal situation, but it is something that many business owners face.

There is no denying that you can benefit from having a credit card for your small business. Just make sure that you get the right one, and that you are not abusing the power of having all this “cash” at your fingertips.
