It’s Free to Apply for a Credit Card, but don’t go nuts
Applying for a credit card is free. You can use the internet to fill out an application, or wait for an offer to arrive in the mail. Either way, you do not have to pay any money. That being said, going overboard is never a good idea.
When you apply for a credit card an inquiry for your credit information is made. Over time, this can drag down your score just a bit. This is why you do not want to go nuts and apply for a new credit card once a week – it just doesn’t make sense.
Also, the more cards you apply for the more confusion you are going to face. After all, how many credit cards do you really need? You should find one that you are comfortable with, apply for it, and then wait for a response. In most cases, you will receive an instant response as to whether or not your application has been accepted; this is especially true if you apply online or over the phone.
Even though it is free to apply for a credit card there is no good reason to continue doing so. Yes, you should get the card you want, when you want it. But don’t go overboard to the point of too many credit inquiries or collecting more information than you really need.
In short, you should never pay a dime to apply for a credit card. There are hundreds of offers, and all of them can be applied for without paying a dime. Just remember: going crazy and applying for too many credit cards has some negative effects.
