Student Credit Card: The Right Purchases

image-16-73009.jpgCollege students want money. There is no denying this. One way that many of them get their hands on it is through student credit cards. This can be good or bad depending on the student, their level of responsibility, etc.

There are some purchases that are better than others when it comes to student credit cards. Here are three of them that usually work out for the better:

1. Books. There is nothing wrong with using a student credit card for books, school supplies, and other related material. After all, the money is going towards bettering your education and that is always a good thing. Just make sure you don’t overdo it because you have some extra money at your fingertips.

2. Transportation to and from home. Again, this is a good expense for a student credit card because everybody needs to go home from time to time. It is easy to go overboard in this area, so be careful. Do you really need to fly first class?

3. Anything that your parents okay! This is something you always want to keep in mind. If you are unsure of whether or not to use your student credit card you should clear it through your parents. If they give you the go ahead you have nothing to worry about.

It is difficult to say what a student credit card should and should not be used for. The above purchases are common and are far from irresponsible. Do you have any others in mind? If so, move forward; but only if you carefully think out the decision.

Confusion and Applying for a Credit Card

image-15-72909.jpgApplying for a credit card is something that you need to do with a clear mind. If you are confused, even in the slightest, you need to take a step back and wait to fill out an application. You don’t want to apply for a credit card when you don’t really know what is going on. Confusion is bad and can often times lead to making the wrong decisions.

Why are you confused? There are many reasons why you may not feel like you are up to moving forward just yet. For instance, some people get confused by all the credit card offers that are out there. With so many cards to choose from it is not always easy to stay sane and make the right choice. If you are confused take some more time so you can eventually get what you want. Do you really have to be in such a hurry?

Others get confused about all the terms and conditions they are facing. What type of rewards program do I want? Is this APR too high? These are questions that you will be asking when searching for and eventually applying for a credit card. You don’t want to be so confused with the terms and conditions that you never move forward. But if you have to take some extra time, so be it.

If you are confused about which credit card is right for you, you are not alone. This happens to many consumers. Make sure you address all your concerns before you do anything that could cause you problems in the future. By clearing your mind before applying for a credit card you can get rid of all confusion and ensure a successful process.

Three Signs that it is Time to get a New Credit Card

image-14-72409.jpgAre you thinking about getting a new credit card? Before you get ahead of yourself you need to make sure that this is really the right move. There is nothing wrong with applying for a new credit card if you definitely need one. But if you don’t, you may want to stay put for the time being. After all, collecting credit cards is not a good idea.

Here are three signs that it is time to get a new credit card:

1. You don’t have one yet! This may be the best reason to do this. If you don’t have a credit card and need one it may be time for you to take the plunge. There are many benefits of carrying a credit card, and if you are responsible enough you should move forward with the application process.

2. Your current credit cards don’t give you the benefits you are looking for. You may be paying too much interest, or maybe your rewards program has gone sour over the years. No matter the reason, if you don’t enjoy your current credit card you may need to look for a replacement.

3. You need more credit. You have to be very careful with this “sign.” It is easy to say that you need more credit, but adding another card increases your chance for making a financial mistake. Don’t add more credit unless you are confident in your ability to stay responsible.

What do you think? Is it time for you to get a new credit card? If one or more of the signs above are present in your life, it may be time to start your search.
