Three Purchases for your Credit Card

image-15-52809.jpgAre you thinking about when you should use your credit card and when you should keep it in your pocket? If so, you are already ahead of the game. Those who consciously think about when to use their credit card are concerned with always making the right decision. Even though the decision is ultimately yours, there are some purchases that are perfect for your credit card. Do you know what they are?

1. College tuition. More and more people are paying their college tuition with a credit card. What is the point of doing this? For one, you do not have to deal with taking out a loan. To go along with this, it is easy to pay in small amounts instead of taking a loan for one lump sum. And of course, do not forget about all the rewards points you can receive by doing this.

2. Gas. There are some credit cards that offer great cash back deals when you buy gas with them. In today’s day and age of high gas prices it is a great idea to have a dedicated credit card for this expense. Make sure you choose the card with the best offer.

3. Car rental. Most car rental companies require that you have a credit card in order to rent a vehicle. While this is important, keep in mind that your card may also offer car rental coverage in case of an accident. Make sure you ask about this before you rent your next vehicle.

Are you in the position to use your credit card in any of the ways listed above? Most people find that using their credit card for college tuition, gas, and car rentals is a great idea.

Credit Cards can Breed Irresponsibility

image-14-52709.jpgAre you the type of person who is responsible with their money? This is a very important part of life. Even though money should not rule your life, you have to be responsible to a certain degree if you are going to achieve a high level of success. Some people learn the hard way that credit cards breed irresponsibility. Out of all the mistakes you can make within your financial life, using credit cards in the wrong way is one of the most common.

It is easy to be irresponsible with a credit card. Some people see this as having tons of money at their fingertips. For instance, a credit card with a $5k limit means that you can buy $5k worth of stuff and not think twice. While this is true in theory, you should also remember that it is far from the responsible thing to do. But since it is simple to spend, it happens time after time.

If you know you are irresponsible with your personal finances you should stay away from credit cards for the time being. This doesn’t mean that you can never again carry a credit card. But until you get back on track, you should leave the plastic to somebody else. It is too easy to get yourself in trouble when you have a credit card in your pocket.

Do credit cards always breed irresponsible consumers? Of course not. There are many people who carry credit cards and use them as they should. But for whatever reason, there will always be millions of people who obtain a credit card and abuse it until they are in too deep. You do not want to be the next person to rack up a huge credit card bill.

The Benefits of a Credit Card Rewards Program

image-13-52209.jpgWhen applying for a credit card you should make a list of all the pros and cons you can think of. With so many options it is very important that you have a checklist to more or less guide you towards the right choice. Those who choose a credit card without knowing the good and bad often times end up with the wrong piece of plastic in their wallet.

One of the best reasons to choose a credit card is for the rewards program. There are many benefits of this type of program, and if you are going to use a credit card you might as well take advantage.

The number one benefit is easy to understand: when you spend money using your credit card you get something in return. So instead of only spending money and getting hit with finance charges you are getting something back from your credit card company. For instance, every dollar you spend may work out to one rewards point. As your points accumulate you will have access to a catalog of products and services which you can trade them in for. Some rewards programs offer the ability to cash in points for cruises, airfare, televisions, golf clubs, and much more.

Don’t choose a credit card just because of the rewards program, though. It is important that you are getting other benefits such as a competitive interest rate, high limit for a good credit score, etc.

There are quite a few benefits of getting involved with a credit card rewards program. If you are shopping for a new card, make sure you consider one with a rewards program that offers many benefits.
