Finding a Business Credit Card in a Tough Economy

image-12-22009.jpgIf you own a small business you may be facing tough times when it comes to getting the money you need to stay above water. This is common due to a down economy, but this does not make the situation any easier on you. Fortunately, you can still get the money you need to operate your business if you know where to look.

Do you need a business credit card to get you through these tough times? If so, you can find what you are looking for even if many credit card companies are being tight with their money.

To start, you need to ask yourself how much money you need. This will tell you how big a line of credit you should be shooting for. Remember, you are going to be offered different benefits from different business credit card companies. If you know how much money you need it becomes much easier to narrow down your options.

What type of credit history does your business have? If you have paid your bills in the past and don’t have any marks that will alert a credit card company you have a much better chance of getting what you want.

Consider all your options. Remember, every option is one that could help you keep your business afloat. No, you don’t want to opt for just any business credit card but you definitely want to keep an open mind.

If you need a credit card for your business you may find this a difficult task to accomplish. But remember, difficult does not mean impossible. You can find a business credit card despite tough times.

What happens if I don’t pay my Credit Card Bill?

image-11-21909.jpgAre you worried that you are not going to be able to pay your next credit card bill? If so, you should know that this is not acceptable. Yes, you can skip a payment and deal with the consequences. But why would you want to put yourself in this position? It would be much better for you to do whatever it takes to make at least the minimum payment. This will go a long way in keeping your finances in better standing.

But what if I don’t pay my bill? What can my credit card company do?

1. There will be a bad mark on your credit report. If you miss even one payment it is going to show up as late on your credit report. In turn, this will throw up a red flag anytime a potential lender is considering you for a loan.

2. A missed payment can lead to a lower credit score. One missed payment will do enough damage, but if you don’t catch up and continue down the same path you are going to cause even more problems for yourself.

3. If you decide that you are not going to pay what you owe in any way, shape, or form, your credit card company will probably send your account to a collection agency. What does this mean to you? Soon enough the phone calls will begin and you will have to come up with a solution.

As you can see, if you don’t pay your credit card bill you are going to face the consequences. Why throw away a good credit score and put yourself in a bad position if you don’t have to? If you don’t think you will be able to pay the bill, keep your plastic in your pocket. This is the best way to avoid this situation.

Negotiate with your Credit Card Company

image-10-21809.jpgBelieve it or not, you can and should negotiate with your credit card company. This may not sound like the best idea, but you never know what you can get until you ask. There are many things that are negotiable, and you may be surprised at how quickly your credit card company complies with your requests.

So what can I negotiate?

1. Your due date. Are you finding that your due date is not making it easy to pay your bill? If so, call your credit card company to negotiate a change. Your company will not change your due date for your current bill, but they can definitely do so for those in the future.

2. Negotiate a lower interest rate. This may sound impossible, but many consumers have had success in this area in the past. You may not be able negotiate a lower rate across the board, but this is more than possible with some details. For instance, are you looking to transfer a balance to another card? If so, tell your credit card company about this and ask them what they can do to make it worth your time and money to stay with them.

3. Fees. You can most definitely negotiate fees with your credit card company. This includes over-limit fees, annual fees, etc. In many cases this is the easiest negotiation to “win.”

Do you feel comfortable negotiating with your credit card company? If not, this is a common feeling. Many people are scared of their company because they believe that they have a lot of power, which they do. But remember, your credit card company wants to keep you happy and in most cases they will do whatever they can to make sure this happens.
