Is your Credit Card Company making changes?

image-12-121908.jpgMore and more credit card companies are making changes, and this has put many people in a bad mood. If you are unaware of the changes that are taking place you should open your eyes. After all, your credit card company may be the next one to implement changes that could greatly affect you.

What types of changes are taking place? For one, credit card companies are increasing interest rates on many cardholders, no matter if they have a good history of paying on time or not. This can be quite frustrating if you have been a “model customer” for many years. If you receive notice of an increased interest rate it would be in your best interest to contact your credit card company for further clarification.

Do you go through long periods of time when you don’t touch your credit card? If so, don’t be surprised if your company decides to cancel your card. Again, this is not something that is fair, but in today’s economy credit card companies find this to work in their favor. This can affect you in many ways. Not only do you lose your credit card, but your credit card score will more than likely take a hit.

Finally, it is no longer easy to receive an increase to your credit limit. There is nothing wrong with asking for an increase, but don’t be surprised if you are turned down without reason. Simply put, credit card companies are trying to protect themselves and giving out more credit is not the best way to accomplish this goal.

Just because credit card companies are making changes and involving many consumers does not mean you will be next. That being said, you should be aware of the changes that are taking place. This way you will not be totally surprised if you receive a notice of change.

Credit Limits: Know them, Abide by them

image-11-121808.jpgEvery credit card has a credit limit attached to it. This limit will be given to you from day one, and you need to keep it in the back of your mind at all times. If you don’t know your credit limit there is a chance that you will go overboard and end up in trouble. No matter what type of limit you are dealing with you need to realize that it is in place for a reason.

Did you know that your credit card company will charge you if you go over your credit limit? This is news to many consumers, but quite true. If you go over you threshold, whatever it may be, you are going to end up paying for it in the end. In turn, not only do you have a maxed out credit card but you also have another fee to deal with. Doesn’t sound like too much fun, does it?

What if my credit limit is not high enough? This is something that many consumers complain about. They love using their credit card but don’t have enough available money to stay happy. In this case you can do a couple things. One, you can call your credit card company to request a limit increase. They may not approve this but there is nothing wrong with asking. Your other option is to get another card so you can have more available credit.

It is important to know your credit limit and abide by this number at all times. There are many mistakes you can make with your credit card, and going over your limit is one of them. From the day you receive your credit card in the mail you should know your limit and learn to keep your balance lower than this number at all times.
