Debt Collection: Are you dealing with this?

image-6-91108.jpgAre you behind in payments to a credit card company? How about a department store? If you are avoiding debt for one reason or the next, there is a good chance that it will be sent to collection. When this happens, you should be prepared to hear from a debt collection agency on a regular basis. Unfortunately, this is only going to make your situation worse. After all, nobody wants to deal with calls from a debt collection agency on a regular basis. That being said, if you know what you are doing you can make the most of this situation.

The most important thing to remember is that you cannot run from debt collection. If a collector calls you on the phone, make sure that you answer it. From there, ask them who they are, what they want, and how you can move forward. You may find that the agency is more than willing to work with you. Of course, there may be times when the person on the other end of the line is attempting to force you into something that you don’t want to do. Simply put, avoiding debt collectors is not the best idea; they are not going away.

The best way to deal with this situation is to put a plan of action in place. In other words, speak with the collection agency about all of your options. You may find that you can get on a payment plan, etc.

If your debt has been sent to collection you are well behind. At this point your credit report is probably dinged, and you need to stop the bleeding as soon as possible. Do not hide from debt collectors. Instead, be willing to speak with them and stay honest when doing so.
