BMW Concept Coupe: Vision Efficient Dynamics

Unlike what the video below by BMW implies, their new concept car, the Vision Efficient Dynamics, is actually a little bit exciting. Okay, so not everybody is looking forward to the whisper quiet electric cars of the future, but this is sure to have some zing to it:
The BMW hybrid will feature a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbo-charged diesel engine, twin electric motors, worth 356 horsepower and a very electric 490 lb-ft of torque. This combination should prove a zero to sixty is less than 5 seconds (4.8 seconds), and a top speed of 155 (electronically limited).
The BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics has been fitted with an M3 six-speed double clutch gearbox, with each of its electric motors placed strategically towards the front of the box. Each electric motor has been designated a pair of wheels to supply power to. The front electric motor will supply a max of 140 horsepower for short bursts, while the rear has been designed to handle up to 50 horsepower.
The combination of diesel and electric drive presents a driving experience which has been described by BMW, as quite similar to their iconic M3. This is thanks to its rather ideal power to weight ratio. The chassis and body has been designed to be as light as possible, thanks to the removal of all unnecessary brackets and excess interior parts found in most vehicles today.

The electric system is supported through regenerative braking, but can be charged through a standard 220 volt outlet in around 2.5 hours (380 volts in 44 minutes). The electric motor by itself can travel up to 31 miles per charge, while its 6 gallon gas tank can provide an additional 400 miles thanks to its lean running diesel. The C02 emission ratings are an ultra low 99g/km.
The end result is what BMW likes to think as one of the most sustainable vehicle concepts to have ever been introduced to the public. Unlike the Tesla roadster, which is quick by its own right, the Efficient Dynamics offers true 2-plus-2 seating, and a respectable amount of hauling space (150 liters). This is certainly an interesting effort by BMW.
Here is a slightly more exciting video for your viewing pleasure:
