The 2010 Camaro SS Gets a Rough Start Out the Gates

Earlier this month GM announced a recall of their “just out the gate” 2010 Camaro SS. It seems a few enthusiasts were treated to a roadside ditching session after their brand new Camaros, with less than 100 miles on the odometer, were found dead on the road. The problem has been reported to be a faulty battery cable, which GM dealers have already jumped on the stick to get fixed as quick as possible. Naturally, a Camaro off the side of the road with its hood up isn’t the kind of “head-turner” GM had in mind.

Now I am a Camaro enthusiast as much as the next guy, but this just doesn’t look good. While consumers know that GM is in the hot seat right now with money troubles, I sure hope that they did not cut too many corners in the production process in order to save a few bucks. Such as borrowing the old leftover battery cables of the infamous AMC Gremlin. Just pray they didn’t use the gas tanks as well!

Seriously though, this little fly in the ointment is going to sting a bit, as GM struggles to polish the ever tarnishing nameplate. The new Camaro has been something enthusiasts have been waiting years for. While the recall is not something majorly threatening, it does pose a threat as far as it clunking out in the middle of an intersection. Very likely? No. But possible? Yes.

If you happen to be one of the lucky first edition drivers of the lean and mean 2010 Camaro SS, you might want to take this recall seriously and get it checked out while the dealers are still smiling. This problem has only been reported with the “SS” models, so the V-6′ers shouldn’t be too concerned on this particular round of recalls.

Every new car has its glitches, we all know that. I just hope this is not a sign of many more to come. Perhaps this is all a matter of blowing out a few cobwebs early in the game, so its glorious return can allow the Camaro to shine in the spotlight the way GM had envisioned.

GM has enough problems these days, without their highly publicized pony car getting knocked out early in the game by a limp gallop!
