Keeping Up With the 2010 Honda Hybrid Insight

The New 2010 Honda Hybrid Insight was recently revealed at the Paris Motor show and it was looking, well, like a typical hybrid should. Futuristic, a little odd, not too flashy, and promising to do a good job of sipping the gas, rather than guzzling it.
Coming this January, the United States will finally get their chance to lay their eyes on the new revised hybrid at the Detroit Auto Show. But until then, what we know of it so far is it will have a completely revised hybrid system (of which can already be found in the current Civic Hybrid), which means it will have their new 1.3 liter three cylinder gas assist engine paired with an electric motor.
The little 67 horsepower 1.3 liter mixed with the potent combination of electric motor, 5-speed manual transmission, and (optional) CVT (Continuously Drive Transmission), should be able to achieve somewhere in the range of 61 mpg in the city and 68/71 on the highway, although other auto blogs are claiming more like 45/50 mpg for the U.S, which is along the lines of the Honda Civic Hybrid.
With a relatively light frame (1900 lb curb weight), the new Insight just might pull off an 11 second 0-60. But what Honda consumers will be even more interested in, is they can expect a range of 500 miles between fill-ups. But the very best part about this hybrid will be its entrance fee to gain access to one, which rumors claim might be somewhere around $18,500 for the base (no-thrill or frill) model.
If your practically jumping out of your shorts to get your hands on one of these, Honda has introduced a first for itself and has introduced an insightful (pun intended) Honda Hybrid Insight blog. The sole purpose of the blog will be to keep its future consumers abreast on the latest journey of the Hybrid Insight, from the auto shows to the eventual showroom floor.
To see the new Insight in action (well, sort of), you can check it out on Honda’s YouTube channel.
