The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X is almost here!

This February is the big release date for the new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer X. The buzz is up and about at the moment and one of the things that everybody is talking about is that the new Evolution X does not quite have the bite of its predecessor. Well, looking at the numbers, one can’t help but notice that this is indeed the truth.

According to Edmunds.com, the 2008 Lancer Evolution X pulls:

0-30 mph in 1.7 seconds

0-45 mph in 3.1 seconds

0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds

0-75 mph in 7.2 seconds

With a quarter-mile time of 13.6 seconds at 101.3 mph

The 2006 Lancer Evolution IX pulls:

0-30 mph in 1.8 seconds

0-45 mph in 3.3 seconds

0-60 mph in 4.9 seconds

0-75 mph in 7.4 seconds

With a quarter-mile time of 13.3 seconds at 103 mph

Q: So, what’s up with the performance drop of the new Evo?

A: An added 250lbs is what is up, or I should rather say weighing it down.

Q: Are they losing their connection with the performance market?

A: Well, yes and no. They are certainly keen on keeping one of the quickest inexpensive cars around today, but at the same time, they are trying to reach a new market of sophisticated drivers by increasing the luxury an quality level, hence the extra 250 lbs.

Q: What is all included in this 250 lbs?

A: The new Evo will feature the same all-wheel-drive turbo charged 2.0, but it has been upgraded with an all new aluminum engine(28 lbs less weight, 291 horsepower and 300 lbs of torque), a more sophisticated all wheel system (Active Center Differential (ACD) and Active Yaw Control (AYC) give the car more grip), a more fortified body structure and five speed manual transmission, computerized stability control, navigation system, bluetooth capability, and a pair of HID headlights.

What you really have to look at here, is that the Evo has already pushed its threshold to its max. This car is actually nearing the numbers and potential of the famed Ford SVT Mustang Cobra and Chevrolet Corvette Z06. With an impressive accomplishment such as this from a $32,000 to $35,000 car, there is not much room to go up much further.

If you want to make something better that is already darn near perfect your only choice is to give up a “little” of something, and add it into a few other areas.

The Evo is in many ways better than its predecessor, and with the proper use of the aftermarket performance market, the new 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X owners will still be top dog at about every stoplight across the world!
