The “Which Car is the Fastest” Blog Post: From A to Z (Part 6)
Saab

While Saab has a bit of a hard time getting its performance numbers much under 6 seconds from 0-60, the 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero XWD does a bang up job of it at 5.9 seconds. The 2.8 V-6 turbo makes an impressive 280 horsepower, so it is surprising that the Saab is not capable of better numbers, especially when you are paying $40,000 for the complete package.
Saturn

Once thought of as a standard teenage cruiser, due to its lagging performance, the 2007 Saturn Sky Red Line puts that belief to rest behind its blistering 5.3 second 0-60 time. Instead of the I-4 supercharged engine that the Ion Red Line receives, the Sky gets an upgraded I-4 turbo pumping out a very respectable 260 horsepower. With only around 2,990 pounds to pull around the Sky can get up and go relatively quickly compared to the Saturn’s of yesterday. And priced at just under $30,000, this Saturn is a steal.
Subaru

The 2008 Subaru WRX Sti is undoubtedly one of the most revered cars on the street for the price. At just $35,000, one can be beating up on just about every streetable muscle car you can throw at it. The secret is in its patented and deadly all-wheel-drive H4 Turbo engine capable of 320 horsepower. 4.5 seconds is all this car needs to see speeds of 60mph.
Toyota

Toyota has its own form of supercar getting ready to be unleashed in 2009, the Toyota FT-HS. For the low price of $39,900, an enthusiast can have a gas saving V-6 Hybrid, with the capability of 400 horsepower at its command. What’s even more impressive is its 0-60 in 4 seconds. This could be a big seller from the way things are looking on paper.
Volkswagen

The 2009 Passat Coupe R36 is going to headline the performance potential for Volkswagen, with its 400 horsepower 3.6 liter V-6 turbo. This Passat can see 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, and that’s with the huge sum of 3,700 lbs of luxury dragging along side it. Just imagine how fast it could be without all that techno-weight.
Volvo

Not particularly known for their power, the 2007 S60 R has a respectable I5 turbo with 300 horsepower that can drive the 3,715 lb cruiser from 0-60 in 5.4 seconds. The $38,000 price tag is certainly not high for a Volvo either, making this not a bad all around performer.
