3 of the Ugliest/Worst Subcompacts the World has ever Seen

“Ugly” is very much in the eye in the beholder… but if you are ever ‘be-holding’ the keys to one of these, you will certainly begin to see more beauty in that of your own two feet walking, than driving… I can almost guarantee you!

Yugo GV- They had to use the word “go” to put ‘motion’ in its name, as most of these were lucky to stay in motion long after getting them off the lot. There is a saying that Yugo had one fancy upgrade item, a rear defroster, which was conveniently used to keep the passengers hands warm while pushing it to its destinations. It is actually not being mean to say that the Yugo was known to actually fall apart while in motion, because there are reports from consumers out there that say just that. The Yugo was built in Soviet-Yugoslavia, and if you have ever tried to do a search for specifications on this vehicle you will quickly see what an embarrassment this car was. You can’t find any solid information to save your life. But maybe in doing this they are saving your life, if you were actually considering buying one.

AMC Pacer- Time Magazine has called the pacer one of the worst vehicles of all time. It has been described as a fish bowl, pregnant roller skate, and a nerd terrarium. One of the most interesting, albeit ugly points of this vehicle, was its two different sized doors. Its base 110 horsepower 6 cylinder engine would perhaps not be so bad if it wasn’t for every one being able to see who was inside while driving in practical slow motion. The Pacer was actually designed by the same creator of the Gremlin, who would certainly be proud to know his creativity scored himself two of the worst vehicles on this list.

AMC Gremlin- Some experts claim that this is the car that single handed brought the final death blow to AMC, which was already having enough problems in the market. But with the Pacer around, I would say that claim would be hard to back-up. One of the ugliest features of the Gremlin was its cropped rear end, which looked as if AMC ran out of metal for a trunk and just did the best they could to seal out the elements. On a positive note, the AMC does win the prize of being the first subcompact offered by the United States, beating both GM and Ford. The six cylinder base model had a 155 horsepower engine.
