Buy What YOU Like… Don’t be a “New Car Apologist”
This is a very common thing going on right now with the younger crowds. The necessity to be accepted and have the proper vehicle to be “kewlâ€. The best advice I can give the younger generations about purchasing a new (new to you at least) car, is to follow your own financial possibilities and desires in a vehicle. Out of all the vehicles out there to choose from, there is always going to be a bigger dog. You can never make everybody happy, so your best bet is going to be to make yourself happy! It’s not about the car anyway…
And to make this point crystal clear, here is the sad succession of the typical “New Car Apologist”.

Apologist: Hey Everybody I just bought a new Mustang V-6.
Naysayer: Lame, why didn’t you get the GT!
Apologist: Well, yeah… that was lame. I am going down there tomorrow to make a trade.
Naysayer: Lame—why get a Mustang GT, when you could have a GTO?
Apologist: Yes, I guess you are right! I need a GTO… that would be much more cool.
Naysayer: Why would you get a GTO right when the release of the new Camaro is so close?
Apologist: Good point… I will wait for the new Camaro and get the V-8 high performance model!!! I will be so cool.
Naysayer: That’s not cool… you are going to spend that much money on an American car when you could buy a Lamborghini Jalpa?
Apologist: Oh Yeah!!! A Lamborghini Jalpa. I think I know of a guy selling one.
Naysayer: Are you are telling me that you are going to get a V-8 when you could have the V-12 of the Countach?
Apologist: Well no… I see your point. I better sell my home and auction off my sisters and see if I can get a bid in for one of those.
Naysayer: Ha ha… all the McLaren F1’s are going to be so much faster than you!!!
Apologist: Oh yeah… well I’m going to get a McLaren F1 too!
Naysayer: Oh yeah… well I am going to take my Bugatti Veyron and leave you in the dust (and hopefully not kill myself in the process).
…and thus the story goes on and on and on…
Moral of the story… Any car is just as cool as any other in the big picture… it is really on how you look at it! Just be happy with your choice! As the star of, “Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift†says, “It’s not the ride, it’s the rider.â€
